Martian Wing is a kinetic installation that translates data derived from the growth process of plants into robotic movement, light, and sound. Real-time data is connected to the motors of the mechanical structure and the LED DMX system, continuously changing the movement and visual state of the work. Visitors can also intervene through sensors, allowing the behavior of the machine to shift through the interaction between data and human movement.
In this work, data becomes a physical force that activates the machine. Earlier works explored biological processes such as plant growth and cellular change through data and form. With Martian Wing, this interest moves into mechanical rhythm and motion, while the question of life expands from microscopic processes toward a larger, cosmic scale.
The work also marks an early stage in the development of Digital Pulse, which later became a central structure within the Life Architect Project. By giving the machine a changing rhythm shaped by external data and sensor input, Martian Wing began to move away from fixed mechanical repetition toward a system capable of continuous variation. This experiment later developed further in Immortel, where memory data became part of the internal rhythm of a digital life form.
