Artificial Ecology extends my research from individual artificial life forms toward situations in which several entities share the same environment and develop relationships over time. In recent works, I have become more interested in the conditions that shape encounters between different entities and their surroundings than in the form or movement of a single robot.
Each entity senses its environment and the presence of others, changing its movement and state in response. At the same time, its behavior affects other entities and the space around it. As these exchanges continue, the work begins to function less like a fixed structure and more like an environment that is constantly changing through relationships.
Within this process, Digital Pulse develops beyond the rhythm of an individual machine. External information, audience interaction, and encounters with other entities alter the state of each work, and these changes influence what happens next. I am also interested in how repeated encounters and changes can accumulate as a form of memory within these systems.
Artificial Ecology begins by setting conditions and observing what kinds of relationships and behaviors emerge from them. Human beings, robots, data, space, and environmental factors all take part in shaping the work. Through these interactions, I am exploring how an artificial ecology might gradually form and change over time.
Artificial Ecology
Artificial Ecology
